DUMBWAITERS FAQs

Have a Dumbwaiter question that is not listed here? Or just need more Dumbwaiter information? Email us!

Q. What is the weight capacity of a Dumbwaiter?
A. Depending on the model, up to 500 lbs for a commercial dumbwaiter and up to 100 lbs for a residential dumbwaiter.

Q. How much space is needed to install a Dumbwaiter?
A. On most models, the shaft way requires a minimum of three feet wide by three feet deep. However, there is more to a shaft way than just size. At All-Ways Accessible, we always provide a detailed mechanical drawing for each installation.

Q. How high can the Dumbwaiter travel?
A. Usually a maximum of 50 feet.

Q. How will I know if a dumbwaiter will fit my space and needs?
A. Our qualified Accessibility Specialist will perform a FREE site evaluation to suggest the best options for your needs and location, with no obligation.

Q. Why a Dumbwaiter?
A. Convenience. Many new homes are built on hills with the garage under. In this case, you are constantly going up and down the stairs each time you bring anything home. Think about how many trips that is when you grocery shop.

Q. Why would I choose a residential dumbwaiter over a residential elevator?
A. There are really only two reasons: 1) a dumbwaiter takes up less space 2) Cost - a dumbwaiter is approximately half the cost of a residential elevator.
